The Farley LaserLab Fabricator successfully combines high speed drilling, marking and plasma cutting of plate in one setup. It is the generalist for making complex machine parts with a number of different operations. The extra tools and high rigidity make it ideal for pats where deep countersinking and tapping are required. It has sufficient thrust and power to work heavy plate and run large tools.
The Fabricator can process any plate up to 10m (30â€? wide and as long as 50m (160â€?. It can be configured to have multiple work zones so that loading and unloading can take place while the machine is working on another plate. The system can handle plate from 6mm (¼') to 140mm (5½') in thickness, and can drill holes from 2mm (1/16') to 125mm (5') in diameter.
| 1.Highlights |

Fabricator uses a high power plasma cutting torch for materials up to 32mm (1¼') and conventional gas cutting above 32mm (1¼'). The system is equipped with a nine-tool carousel with auto tool changer, and can have as many as four cutting torches -- although two are normally sufficient. Marking can be done by inkjet, plasma, powder or punch. Fabricator’s performance is enhanced by Farley patented plate clamping system, which minimizes chatter and plate movement, the drill life has been up to 40-60% longer than on a large heavy duty machining centre with conventional edge clamping.
Fabricator checklist can eliminate over 90% of handling in parts to be drilled and profiled. High speed drilling available with efficient plasma cutting offers improvements in output of +300%. Multi set-ups materials savings through better nesting on big plates.
The system is extensively used by structural steel fabricators, steel service centers, earth moving equipment makers, special machine builders and so on. It can typically improve productivity by three to five times, while introducing better accuracy, more flexibility and greater range. All these aspects add up to lower cost parts.
