The laser strengthening and repair technology of metal mold surface exhibits the following unique features:
1. only applied to the area required to be strengthened or repaired;
2. As the surface is strengthened and repaired through radiation to the designated areas by non-contact high energy laser beam under average atmospheric condition, strengthened and repaired molds and workpieces are free from deformation, which is ideal for surface strengthening in such special positions as the bottom of blind hole and the hole wall of deep boreholes;
3. The strengthening process maintains a high speed and is thus a highly effective and flexible surface strengthening and repair technology;
4. Laser surface strengthening provides molds with a long life of service and good economic returns, and thus can be utilized for surface strengthening and repair of various kinds of molds and workpieces with iron-base alloy and nickel-base alloy.
