Military future-lasers help detect the flu
The Compact Mid-Ultraviolet Technology, or CMUVT, with wavelengths of 200-240 nanometers, has set the stage for subsequent study and application successfully. Originally, this military technology is designed for soldiers to detect bombs on the battlefield, but as researchers indicate that, the handheld devices are also capable of detecting flu virus, which may make the technology utile for citizen. “What we really want to do is to create breakthrough laser tech for a variety of applications,” said Daniel Green, a DARPA program manager. So now the technology is not only used on the battlefield, but also used for public medical staffs to detect and track infectious diseases.
